Our tour would visit the islands of Amantani and Taquile. On Amantani we stayed with local families in their homes. Even if I expected much less (after all the comments I've heard and read) life there is still very basic. Cooking gets still done on woodfires and electricity is only seen in few homes that can afford a solar panel. That's just a few though - most of them can't even afford visiting the mainland, except for getting supplies every 3 months or so.

It's damn hard to restart your life when you traveled in countries like in southamerica. Everything here in Zürich is so new, so shiny, so expensive... the trains go on the minute, the people walk so fast, somehow lightyears too busy. After a culture shock when you start your travel you will have a 2nd as soon as you're back home.
Don't forget to go out in "El Garabato" in Cuzco (calle Espaderos, west of the plaza de armas), super-chévere!
